Mark Ronson

So Mark Ronson, who made the excellent Here Comes The Fuzz album in 2003, has a new album coming out on April 16 2007 called Versions. You can hear a few tracks on his MySpace page and see video clips of the production at his YouTube page. There’s more information at his site of course.

New York Magazine has a long article about the whole Ronson family and it’s full of choice trivia. His dad isn’t Spider From Mars Mick Ronson as some have suggested, a confusion maybe caused by the fact that his stepdad is a rock star called Mick (Jones, out of Foreigner (not the other one out of The Clash)). The AOR frontman wrote the sublime 80s classic I Wanna Know What Love Is for Mark’s mum, Ann Dexter-Jones: reason enough to marry anyone surely. Of all the lighters held aloft in stadiums to that song, probably quite a few were Ronsons, but that’s a different story.

Still with me, I hope. Ann, in her turn, is a noted NY hostess and cousins with both Leon Brittan and Malcolm Rifkind. Incidentally, her first husband and Mark’s dad, Laurence Ronson, is minted but just, like, some property guy. Anyway, the article is another interesting slice of glitzy New York, one of my pet topics at the moment, it seems: something to do with finding it simultaneous seductive and repulsive. All the connections between people are fun though.

Aaanyway, the only reason for this post before I got distracted by all the above was to link Mark’s show on New York’s East Village Radio Authentic Shit. It’s released as a podcast each week (more information at the site) and is definitely worth a listen.
