How To Lose Friends And Alienate People: further reading

I’ve just finished reading How to Lose Friends and Alienate People by Toby Young - very very entertaining. Curiosity prompted me to google a few details from the book:

Names and faces like Graydon Carter, Anna Wintour, Tina Brown and Harold Evans are all pretty well-known, so I was less interested in them than in some of the more obscure characters. Raging bon viveur and half-brother of Nigel Tufnel Anthony Haden-Guest looks as debauched as you would think. According to James Bachman (here and here), ‘Alex de Silva’ looks to be Sacha Gervasi. He used to be the drummer in Bush (The Diceheads at the time), wrote The Big Tease and went out with Veronica Webb (the book’s ______ ______); he’s since written The Terminal and sired Geri Halliwell’s ludicrously-named infant Bluebell Madonna. As the ending of the book implies, it’s kind of hard to say whether that’s a successful life or not…

The follow-up, a memoir of failure in the script-writing business called The Sound of No Hands Clapping, is supposed to be disappointing, despite its great title. Better news is that a movie version of How to Lose Friends is about to start filming, with Simon Pegg starring.
